Zen & Mindfulness:
The Autumn Japan Retreat
Join us for an intentional and potent 5-day journey in the tranquil heart of Japan, designed to cultivate mindfulness,
foster self-exploration, and deepen your connection with the world around you.
It’s an invitation to embrace and embody the spiritual and aesthetic philosophies of Japan
and carry them forward into your daily life.
The Essence
This curated experience will explore the timeless concepts that define the Japanese way of living
—a life characterized by longevity, heartfelt kindness, and a deep reverence for nature.
Our experience emphasizes intention and attention to detail, exploring the unique Japanese balance of old and new
coexisting harmoniously.
We will explore some of the Japanese concepts such as:
一期一会 Ichigo Ichie :
Being fully present and appreciating every unique moment, interactions, and experience.
Finding beauty in imperfection, transience, and incompleteness.
温故知新 Onko Chishin:
Gaining new insights by studying and revisiting past knowledge and wisdom.
The Journey
Our 5-day itinerary is carefully woven with natural immersion, mindful experiences, and traditional spiritual practice of Japan. This experience will guide you to embody the beauty of nature and practice mindful presence— every moment is an invitation to connect with the timeless heart of Japan.
Embrace the Nature and Stillness
Healing Waters of Onsen (natural hot springs): Surrender yourself to the flow of the Earth. You will soak in the mineral-rich waters, allowing the warmth to melt away the tension —preparing the mind for stillness.
Meditation & Temple Silence: Quiet your busy mind with seated meditation (Zazen). In the quiet sanctuary of a local temple, you will learn the discipline of the breath and turning inwards to deepen understanding of the self.
Spiritual symbolism of Mt.Fuji: Our gentle, mindful hike and exploration near Mt. Fuji is not just for physical wellbeing, but also exploring the centuries old spiritual practice of Shinto (Japan’s indigenous spiritual practice).
Shinrin-yoku (Forest Bathing): A meditative nature walk—shinrin-yoku—is a sensory experience of immersing ourselves in its beauty and harmonizing with nature to remember that we - humans are part of nature too.
Shinto Shrine & Nature: We will explore Shintoism—Japan's deep-rooted belief in the sacredness of nature, by visiting a Shinto Shrine. Discover how Shintoism is ingrained in the country's culture, aesthetic, and daily life, often acting as the foundation for the Japanese worldview.
Traditional Green Tea Tasting: Journey to the fields for a tea immersion. You will walk the terroir, learn the process of tea preparation, and enjoy a guided tea tastings.
Mindful Dining: Japanese people reflect deep cultural values of gratitude, humility, and mindfulness even during meal times. You will learn to slow down, appreciate the seasonal harvest, and honor the artistry on your plate
The Takeaway
We’ve curated this retreat to create experiences that are deliberately slow, deeply sensory, and designed to cultivate inner stillness.
During the retreat, you will be guided through reflective journal prompts to facilitate your self-exploration:
Slowing down and calming the busy mind.
Be comfortable in the present moment.
Finding the Inner Truth.
After this retreat, you may feel:
A nervous system that has been given genuine conditions to restore
Genuine sense of belonging — by a place, a practice, a community
Days felt in your body through mindful embodiment practices
Finding a direction for what has been missing
Rest as a practice you have actually inhabited, not just sleep
Slowed down enough to notice what actually matters to you
A philosophy — wabi-sabi, ma, kansha — that travels home with you
Connections with people who respects and cares about you
Upon completion of this trip, we hope you’ll walk away with a lasting feeling of peace and calm.
