After pursuing studies in academics, psychology, and theology, Marijean decided the best way to answer her call to facilitate healing in others was through the study and practice of massage therapy. Licensed in 2010, Marijean became a student of Thai Massage shortly thereafter and was certified through the Living Sabai Advanced Certification Program in Thai Massage in 2018. She has enjoyed opportunities to train in Northern Thailand with Thai Masters since 2019 and recently relocated with her family to Portland from Nashville, TN.
Marijean resonates at her core with the philosophy of Northern Thai Massage that treatment should never be painful but an expression of compassion and lovingkindness that aids each client in finding their body’s health and balance. She deeply believes that massage is for all bodies, and establishing the safety and comfort of clients is integral to her practice. Her work is intuitive and trauma-informed, blending modalities when necessary to meet the needs of her clients within both individual sessions and as a part of meeting long-term wellness goals. Marijean is passionate about introducing clients to Traditional Thai practices that can help relieve their pain, increase their flexibility and mobility, and help them feel refreshed and tranquil.
Outside of her work in health and wellness, Marijean enjoys time with her spouse and pre-teen kiddo, their large menagerie of animals, and friends old and new. She has a passion for the fiber arts, historical dress, the history of world religions, reading, and creative writing. She loves all animals, being outdoors, and exploring the world. Marijean also loves teaching and can be found educating in classrooms of many varieties.
