Your body knows
more than you think.
Most Portland professionals in high-performance roles are carrying stress they've normalised — in their shoulders, in their gut, in their relationship with food, in the inability to decompress even when time allows. These assessments don't diagnose. They reveal patterns you've stopped noticing and give you a clear, practical starting point. Rooted in nervous system science, HAES® principles, and Japanese wellness philosophy.

Common questions

Questions about
wellness in Portland

Honest answers to the questions Portland professionals ask most often about stress, burnout, body tension, and mindful eating.

Yes — completely. All three House Nine wellness assessments are free, take approximately 2 minutes, and deliver your personalised result and reset protocol instantly on screen. You will be invited to join the House Nine Inner Circle community after completing an assessment, but there is no obligation.
The Nervous System Audit is a 10-question self-assessment that identifies your current autonomic nervous system state — specifically, how much time your nervous system is spending in sympathetic mode (fight-or-flight) versus parasympathetic mode (rest-and-digest). It identifies five distinct profiles from fully regulated to depleted, and delivers a 3-step reset protocol tailored to your specific stress pattern.
Tiredness resolves with rest. Burnout does not. Key signs of burnout include: sleep that does not feel restorative, emotional blunting (things that used to matter no longer do), an inability to decompress even when time allows, and a persistent low-grade anxiety that has become your baseline. The Nervous System Audit specifically identifies whether you are in a depleted state that requires more than rest to recover from.
House Nine offers mindful eating and nutrition coaching in Portland, led by Miho Hatanaka, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). The practice is rooted in Health at Every Size® (HAES) and intuitive eating principles — no diet plans, no calorie counting, no food rules. Sessions focus on understanding stress eating patterns, rebuilding hunger and fullness awareness, and developing a sustainable, compassionate relationship with food.
For chronic neck and shoulder tension — common in tech workers, managers, and anyone spending 8+ hours at a desk — House Nine recommends Ashiatsu (deep-pressure barefoot massage that releases the trapezius and levator scapulae without discomfort), Craniosacral Therapy for nervous system regulation, or focused therapeutic massage targeting the upper back and cervical muscles. The Body Tension Map assessment (coming soon) will help identify which modality is most suited to your specific tension pattern.
After completing any assessment, you receive your profile and reset protocol instantly. You will be invited to enter your email to join the House Nine Inner Circle — a free members-only community for our clients, with monthly practitioner letters and a wellness resource library. You will also receive gentle suggestions for House Nine services that match your result. There is no sales pressure and no obligation to book.
No. Stress eating is a neurological response, not a character failing. When cortisol is elevated — as it is during sustained periods of high-pressure work — the prefrontal cortex (responsible for rational decision-making) goes offline and the limbic system takes over. The limbic system seeks fast-acting comfort, which is why food becomes the default. Understanding this changes the approach entirely. The Mindful Eating Assessment helps identify your specific stress-eating pattern and gives you practical, non-restrictive starting points.
